DRAINSPOTTING

Remo Camerota documents Japanese manhole covers. He's even published a book about them. Read more here or order the book here on Amazon. Found via Trendland.

MORE MONROE

I hadn't visited Stockholm based artist Brendan Monroe's site in ages. His work seems to have always had a delicately surreal and dreamlike quality. It seems that his work has become more abstract yet retained its simple beauty. Check out his some of his more recent pieces here and more of his ethereal paintings here.

JR & VHILS COLLAB

I remember Wooster Collective being one of my first favourite websites. In my final year of study my major project dealt with Graffiti and Street Art and it's influence on contemporary design and illustration. Wooster provided a fantastic platform for the research necessary. Current favourite on the site is this collaboration by JR and Vhils. Read more here and visit Wooster Collective here.

HOVERBOARD

As a kid I had a long list of most desperately desired toys. Grey Skull Castle was always number 1. Until now. Hoverboard by Nils Guadagnin. Discovered via designyoutrust.

CHRIS JORDAN

Trash art? Um...not quite. What you see here is an unaltered shot of a dead baby albatross. The colourful items you see are bottle caps, plastic items and other trash the mother has mistaken for food and fed her young chick. Please don't feign ignorance to this. Do you think that all your trash ends up in a landfill? Chris Jordan documents this and numerous other horrid ends to young birds on Midway island, 2000 miles from the nearest continent.

PIET PARRA

I discovered Piet Parra's work a couple of years ago. I love the way he's taken a simple character and his own brand of humour and built a pretty successful little empire. Read an insightful interveiw with the Dutch born artist here on the99percent.com.

ART DIRECTOR DURBAN

My company is looking for a preferably Durban based art director with a couple of years of experience. Having an interest in sport and the outdoors is a plus. Leave a comment here if interested. Cheers.

JULIE MOREL

Slightly creepy but ultimately cool illustrations titled "Organs" from Julie Morel. Found on Yatzer. See more of her work here.

DWELL - SALVAGE LOVE

I am shamelessly envious of this guy and his house. It's amazing what he achieved on a tight budget and a little hlep from his friends. Found quite a while back on Dwell.

HUANG QINGJUN AND MA HONGJIE

Really interesting photographic series by two Chinese photographers Huang Qingjun and Ma Hongjie. It intrigues me that some families have only a handful of possessions. Here in the West we're such a part of a materialistic culture, accumulating "stuff", that we could in fact do without. Found here on Booooooom.

SIGGI EGGERTSSON

Awesome online portfolio of Siggi Eggertsson. See more here.

FEEDBACK

I've uploaded a random range of shots on Flickr from my recent trip to Cape Town and from my hometown Durban, and would appreciate any feedback from my fellow bloggers. I don't have any formal training in photography, so I just shoot what catches my eye, but would nonetheless love to hear what you think. Click here to see more on Flickr.

CITY SLICKERS CAPE TOWN

Taking part in the 3rd leg of this exhibition which hits Cape Town on the 16th of April at the Wessel Snyman Creative gallery. Entrance is R10 and the event will be covered by One Small Seed. Would really dig to make it down for the opening night. For more info check out the blog or the group on Facebook here.

BREATH OF FRESH AIR - TREVOR PAUL

A mate of mine Trevor, has been pioneering design and illustration on the Durban and, not so surprisingly, the international scene for a while now. Being something of a seasoned veteran, his work and originality continue to inspire and challenge me to enjoy what I do and not get bogged down with what can be become a energy-sapping career choice. Working under the name Firebrand Design and part of a loose collective of designers and illustrators titled Bigwood you can browse through his work on Zazzle here or Glossom here.

CORNELIA HESSE-HONEGGER

From childhood I've always had a fascination with nature, primarily birds and bugs, as our garden was always teeming with them, and a flying-ant feast was a common curiousity. Not so much anymore though. I'm convinced to this day that I found many new species tucked beneath stones, or hiding in the rockery. So naturally, these illustrations caught my eye.
