GET INVOLVED EXHIBITION

Recently saw on Lucky Pony that they were hosting a photographic exhibition at Wolves on the 2nd of September. It's a film-only show so I had a scrounge through some recent shots. Hoping to make it up for the show but it's looking doubtful. These are two of the shots I submitted. If you're in the area, pop by on Friday night for what's sure to be cracker of an evening. Big thanks to Shane for sorting me out with the printing.

OUR LIVES OF DECKADENCE

If you're a local or you're going to be in Durban over the next while, make sure to check out this exhibition. Our Lives of Deckadence is an exhibition of skate culture, with the show featuring customised skate decks, photography and film. Brought to you by Verb and Revolution the opening at Gallery 415 is on the 17th of June at 18:30. R20 entrance gets you a free drink and raffle entry for a photographic print ( opening night only). Some of my crazy talented mates are taking part so it's sure to be a winner show. Check out the Facebook page here.

031 COLLECTION: AMANDA LAIRD CHERRY

The 031 collection which took place this past weekend in Durban, was a complete success. Hot fashion, great atmosphere and all round fun. Each seat in our section had a little take-away pack. Most of the items were for the ladies ( see nail polish, shades, make-up etc.) , but there was this one thing that caught my eye. Amanda Laird Cherry got small flyer / booklets printed. The story was made up but cool nonetheless. Seemed like she was the only designer to do so. I liked them purely for that reason. It's the same reason I liked the Holmes Bros range the most. They chose to use regular joes and those with a bit of quirk, instead of clean-cut chiseled schmodels. Anyway I digress. I dig the illustration and typography, mostly as I was a bird-watcher in my youth, ( Okay go ahead and laugh. I got to hang with my Dad in the bush, and go on road-trips so it was great fun actually ) but also because the design was beautifully executed and sits well with her range. For those that don't know Amanda Laird Cherry is one of South Africa's foremost fashion designers. Her site is under construction but check out her Facebook page in the meantime.

99C DRAWING SHOW PRETORIA

Art show organiser extraordinaire and talented creative in her own right Maaike Bakker, brings us another great show after her success of City Slickers. The event details on Facebook read:

"99c is an exhibition offering a diversity of works ranging from leftover sketches torn from sketchbooks as well as a couple of more complete works that all explore the infinite possibilities offered by drawing. The aim is also to offer art of different price brackets, with an emphasis on lower priced works, yet also featuring a few bigger works as an alternative. Instead of subscribing to the regular exhibition approach, 99c is supposed to be more of an art supermarket with an alternative more lo-fi approach to art-making. The exhibition will also feature a live performance by the band "a skyline on fire"

See the Facebook page here for more details and see Maaike's blog here.

CITY SLICKERS CAPE TOWN

Taking part in the 3rd leg of this exhibition which hits Cape Town on the 16th of April at the Wessel Snyman Creative gallery. Entrance is R10 and the event will be covered by One Small Seed. Would really dig to make it down for the opening night. For more info check out the blog or the group on Facebook here.

KING OF 'ARTS

All Durban locals, and those who will be here on the 24th of October, be sure to hit Beanbag Bohemia from 7pm onwards. 27 Durban artists have been approached to put mind to paper and come up with 2 designs each, for a limited edition deck of cards. Only 100 packs will be printed along with A3 prints of the artworks. Show may hit Joburg and Cape Town as well.

LOST AND FOUND

I'll be taking part in an live painting exhibition this Saturday at Hot Black in Durban. Those that are interested pop on by. We'll be there from early but will be painting most of the day. It's my first live painting show so little nervous but more than anything just up for the challenge and as it's a collaboration it'll be great to hang and work with other really talented artists for the day. Check out the flyer above for more info.

OFF THE WALL 3 - UPDATE

Some of my pieces from the Off the
Wall 3 Exhbition which opened Monday 28th April and closes this Saturday 10th May at 1pm. If you haven't popped down, try make it before the closing date and scope the local talent. Many thanks to Lee Scott Hempson, Danni Diana, Tyron Love and Kelly Crawford for buying some of my art.

ALONG THE WAY

Last night local spot Manna, in Durban, was buzzing at the second launch of a new book, Along the Way. Part of a larger initiative titled, Cascoland the book was put together by Roger Jardine, Niall McNulty and Tamlyn Young. All proceeds of last night book sales go towards a family met during the ten day event. The family was torn apart tragically in a car accident in which the father and young daughter were killed leaving the mother, pregnant with the couples second child.

The book features photography by Jardine of Disturbance Design, with prints on display and for sale at last nights shindig. The prints are in limited editions of ten and vary from between R400 and R600. Oh and music was supplied by the talented Mr. Aidan Cornhill.

DIARISE THIS

The third annual Off The Wall exhibition invites are out and yours truly will most definitely be submitting work for it. Themed "The Great Trek", this years exhibition is geared around the idea that our lives are one long journey and the artwork is to revolve around that concept.

I attended the show last year for the first time and you can bet your bottom ront there's going to be white hot art on display/for sale. Make a note of this and make sure you're in Durbs for the weekend. To quote my good mate Will, "Be there or be a rhombus!" The exhibition will run from the 21st April to 10 May at Artspace, Durban. Keep checking out the blog for updates as the big date draws nigh.

HEART EXHIBITION: UPDATE

For those that were there on the opening night, many thanks for all the compliments. Pretty stoked with how the bench came out. Needless to say the rest of the pieces on display were amazing.

CARRY ME AWAY

A couple of local artists led by an idea sparked in the mind on local sculptor George Holloway took part in an exhibition at Corner Café which opened Friday. The idea was to take a wheelbarrow each and customise it in what ever way the artist felt. The opening night was great with some great work. Artists that participated including myself were George Holloway, Sarah Holloway, Wez van Eeden, Christian Mugnai, Ross Turpin, Jenna-Leah Shone, Trevor Paul, Richard Phipson and Lyle Wessels. Above are a few of the barrows. From the top Trevor, Richard, Christian and mine. I'll update if I get some more pics.
